Penny's Return
Hi Penny...I wanted to ask you in life what did you have to do to stay focus and reach the top?

Hey there, I’m not Penny, I’m just a fan like you. Good question though, would love to hear him answer it.

Dante Exum: Bust or no?
Yes, it’s still way too early to answer this but I did happen to catch the past Utah preseason game against the Clippers on League pass and just wanted to share some thoughts. Rudy Gobert, that guy is a beast. Trey Burke was also impressive and I don’t see Dante taking his starting spot anytime soon.
Dante had 8 turnovers in 22 minutes which is very concerning but 2 or 3 off of those were of hacks on the arm where he didn’t get the calls and others were legit turnovers and a couple very bad ones at that. The Clippers guards were really going at the 19 year old rookie. He really does need to work more on his handle though. Penny’s handle at 6’7 was strong. He didn’t really go head-to-head against Chris Paul, I’m guessing about 5 minutes, with the rest against the Clips bench guards.
Funny thing is, Dante shot pretty darn well. 3 of 5 from behind the arc. The major concern about him coming into the league was that he couldn’t shoot. So this was definitely good to see. On the other hand the 5 3PT FG attempts he did have we’re all of his shot attempts. I want to see some hard drives to the hoop! The oop pass to Gobert was nice though.
Also, just looking at his stats he was +14 on the night. Which is confusing to me cos of the 8 turnovers he had. I mean if he cut those by half he would have had an impressive night (and with experience he will).
Well it’s still only the preseason, good to get these issues out the way early. I think we will see what the real Dante will be in 2 years. By then he will be 21, which by most is still very young. Jazz fans will just have to be patient. For the next couple seasons, you will see glimpses of greatness, maybe even some amazing games but most nights Dante will be learning the system and his own game. I really am rooting for the kid and hope he turns out to be a superstar.
